United Launches First Flight with Revolutionary Polaris Studio Cabin

United Airlines is set to redefine long-haul travel with the inaugural flight of its first Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner featuring the highly anticipated “Elevated” cabin, including the exclusive Polaris Studio suites. On April 22nd, Flight UA 1 from San Francisco (SFO) to Singapore (SIN) will be the first to showcase this next-generation interior, followed by Flight UA 901 to London Heathrow (LHR) on April 30th.

Unprecedented Luxury in the Polaris Studio

The centerpiece of the upgrade is the Polaris Studio: a spacious, lie-flat suite that’s 25% larger than standard United Polaris seating. Each suite boasts a massive 27-inch 4K OLED touchscreen – the largest available on any U.S. carrier – and six of the eight suites include companion seating with integrated seatbelts, allowing for shared dining experiences.

Passengers booking these premium seats will enjoy elevated amenities, including osetra caviar, luxurious pajama sets, noise-canceling headphones, high-end skincare, and even United-branded playing cards. Wireless charging and Bluetooth connectivity complete the high-tech experience. Note that the privacy doors on these suites are temporarily unavailable due to certification requirements.

Upgrades Across All Classes

The improvements aren’t limited to business class. The aircraft features 56 updated Polaris suites with 19-inch screens, along with 35 enhanced Premium Plus (premium economy) seats with privacy dividers. Even economy passengers benefit from larger 13-inch seatback screens with Bluetooth connectivity and ample power outlets.

United is positioning this configuration to offer the highest proportion of premium seating among U.S. airlines, signaling a shift towards prioritizing passenger comfort across all cabins. The airline plans to retrofit at least 30 Boeing 787-9s with the new interiors by 2027.

Booking Options & Pricing

The SFO-SIN route, departing April 22nd, is already bookable. Cash fares start at $704 in economy, $2,718 in Premium Plus, and $6,258 in Polaris business class – a significant premium compared to the standard SFO-SIN flight without the new cabin, which is priced at $3,646.

For MileagePlus members, award bookings require 75,000 miles in economy, 200,000 in Premium Plus, and 300,000 in Polaris business class (plus $5.60 in taxes/fees). These are dynamic prices, so checking for lower availability closer to the departure date is recommended.

Currently, the seat map on United’s website doesn’t reflect the new cabin layout, so specific Polaris Studio booking details are still pending system updates.

United’s move demonstrates a clear investment in passenger experience, and the rollout of these aircraft will likely drive demand for long-haul routes. The airline is betting that travelers will prioritize comfort and entertainment, even if it means paying a premium.

This launch marks a significant step in United’s commitment to elevating air travel. The new cabin design, coupled with enhanced amenities and tech upgrades, promises a superior experience for passengers in all classes, making this aircraft one to seek out for future journeys.
