Delta Launches Nonstop LA to Manila Flights in March 2025

Delta is expanding its footprint. Fast.

The Atlanta-based giant announced this Friday that it will launch nonstop flights from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) to Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Manila. Service starts March 28 next year. It’s their first nonstop connection between the US mainland and the Philippines.

Why Manila now? The carrier wants to dominate the transpacific skies. And LAX is becoming the playground of choice.

How Delta’s Pacific Strategy is Changing

This isn’t a one-off experiment. Delta is building a hub in Southern California that connects directly to Asia and Australia.

Look at the recent moves:
– New flights to Hong Kong launched last month.
– Nonstop service to Melbourne began last December.

Executives called transpacific service a massive growth opportunity during the July 10 earnings call Joe Esposito, chief commercial officer, was blunt about it. He said they look for high-demand destinations they don’t serve yet. Then they start flying there. Hong Kong happened. Melbourne happened. Now Manila is next.

“A lot of it is looking at our Customers who have a high demand to go those destinations that we don’t fly to” – Joe Esposito

It’s a calculated push against carriers like United and American. Delta wants to be the leading global carrier out of LAX. Vice president of network planning Jeff Arander stated the Manila addition strengthens that position. It’s simple math more flights equals more dominance.

Why This Route Matters for Travelers

You might remember Delta flying to Manila before. But those were different flights.

Back in the day Delta operated “fifth freedom” services. Planes would stop in Seoul or Tokyo before hitting Manila. Those routes died during the pandemic and never came back. This new service is different. It is a true nonstop. No layovers in Korea. No stops in Japan.

Just LAX to MNL.

Philippine Airlines is already there. They are a fixture on this route. But they are about to join Oneworld Alliance soon. That leaves SkyMiles loyalists with a powerful new tool in their belt. You can now use Delta miles for direct travel to the South Pacific.

United Airlines flies from San Francisco to Manila already. Delta from Los Angeles creates competition. More competition means better options. Or at least, more inventory for point redemptions.

What the Plane Looks Like

The Airbus A350-0900 handles this long haul. It’s quiet. Efficient.

Depending on the configuration, the cabin features up to 40 Delta One Suites. Not just seats. Real suites. Doors and everything. This rollout comes weeks after Delta opened its second upscale lounge at LAX. It’s their fifth network-wide. The hardware matches the hub strategy.

Travelers booking now need to know the launch date: March 28.

Will the schedules fill up fast? Probably.

There is always someone who wants to fly nonstop when a new route opens. The question isn’t whether Delta will make it work. They’ve done this with Melbourne. They’ve done it with Hong Kong. They are betting LAX passengers are hungry for more direct links to Southeast Asia.

The market is shifting. Points are getting more flexible. The skies over the Pacific are about to get busier with tricolor tail fins.
